Foundation festival part 3: L’Oreal foundations

L’Oreal is one of the most expensive drugstore brands so of course I always expect the best of it. I tried 3 foundations so far and I must say I wasn’t very impressed with 2 of them.

(Just a little bit of information about my skin: I have mostly dry skin with occasionally oily T-zone. Some acne here and there, acne scars, large pores and few wrinkles. Colour shade NW20 in MAC foundations.
What I expect from a foundation: medium coverage, good longevity (more than 7 hours), smoothing my skin texture (hiding pores and acne scars) as well as not accentuating dry patches.)

L'Oreal foundations: True Match, Nude Magique and Lumi Magique

TRUE MATCH FOUNDATION

Price: depends where you buy it, it can go from 10€ to 16€ for 30 ml.

Scent: it has make-up scent.

Shades: the colour choice in US is amazing, it is offered in 29 shades!!! In Europe however it is very poor selection, here in Belgium around 8 shades, in Slovakia around 13. Mine is in colour W2 Golden Vanilla which is a good match for me in winter. I bought it in UK since this shade is not available in continental Europe. What a shame. I used the foundation mainly for mixing it with other foundations with good formula but wrong shade.

Texture and finish: it has liquid texture, it is best applied with fingers or brush. It gives semi matt finish, skin looks quite natural. It is suitable for normal to slightly dry skin as it doesn’t cling to the dry patches very much.

Coverage: almost medium, evens out the skin tone and covers some small imperfections.

Longevity: it is not very long-lasting on my skin, only about 5 hours and then it starts to break, especially on my T-zone.

LUMI MAGIQUE FOUNDATION

Price: from 10€ to 16€ for 30 ml.

Scent: it doesn’t have any scent.

Shades: 12 shades in US, in Europe around 8 shades. Mine is in colour W3 Gold Linen which is darker than my skin tone and I wished I could find W2 (if it exists). I use this foundation mainly in the summer when I’m selftanned.

Texture and finish: it has cream texture, easy to apply, with fingers, brush or sponge. It gives luminous finish (but not crazy luminous) and smoothes out the skin texture. Skin looks healthy and beautiful. It is suitable for normal to dry skin.

Coverage: medium, evens out the skin tone and covers some imperfections.

Longevity: it lasts very long for me, about 10 hours. It is not very common to find a luminous foundation with a long lasting property.

Lumi Magique by L'Oreal

NUDE MAGIQUE FOUNDATION (IN US: MAGIC NUDE LIQUID POWDER BARE SKIN PERFECTING MAKEUP)

I won’t write too much about it as it is similar to Lancome Miracle Air de teint that I reviewed some time ago.

Price: from 10€ to 16€ for 30 ml.

Scent: it has light make-up scent with hint of alcohol.

Shades: 18 shades in US, in Europe around 8 shades. Mine is in colour 110 Warm Ivory which is slightly darker than my skin tone but it is usable with little bit more of highlighting and less bronzing.

Texture and finish: it has liquid texture, you have to shake it before use it. It is best applied with fingers. The finish is matt yet looking quite natural. The skin looks like you've powdered it. I don’t recommend it to dry skin girls, it is more suitable for normal skin.

Coverage: medium, evens out the skin tone and covers some imperfections.

Longevity: it lasts only for 5 hours so I use it mainly when I know I won’t stay out for long time.

Nude Magique by L'Oreal

Final verdict: True match doesn’t have enough of coverage or longevity and Nude Magique doesn’t stay for long time as well. Those two won’t stay in my collection. On the other hand Lumi Magique is another Holy Grail foundation; it is such a pity that I cannot find my winter shade. It looks so nice on the skin even when it’s dry and stays on for long time so it’s perfect for long working days. I love it!

Foundation festival part 2: Dermacol foundations

Let’s continue today with the brand that is not very well known outside of Slovakia or Czech Republic. It is really a pity because I think they have better make-up than some drugstore brands available everywhere. You can buy Dermacol either in the Dermacol shop or in DM drugstore in Slovakia and Czech Republic.

Dermacol foundations: Caviar long stay make-up & corrector and Matt control 18h foundation

CAVIAR LONG STAY MAKE-UP AND CORRECTOR

Price: 10,99€ for 30 ml.

Scent: it has light floral scent.

Shades: only 4 shades to choose from, mine is in the colour 2 fair and it is darker than what I usually use, I can wear it only when I’m selftanned.

Texture and finish: it has ticker cream consistency. You get the best application either with fingers or sponge. The finish is semi-matt. It smoothes out the skin texture and makes the face look flawless. At the same time, it is very visible on the skin so I think it is better to be used for evening occasions. It reminds me little bit of Estee Lauder Double Wear. I think it is suitable for normal, slightly dry or slightly oily skin.

Coverage: medium, evens out the skin tone and covers quite a lot of imperfections.

Longevity: it last for about 10 hours, except the T-zone where you may need to touch up after 7 hours. It keeps the blush and highlighter very well on the skin, I noticed they started fade away only after 8-9 hours.

Corrector: it says on the website that you can use it under the eyes and on the skin imperfections. Well, the consistency of the corrector is dry cream which means that it will dry your under eye area like crazy. I don’t recommend applying it under eyes by no means. It is not the same colour as the foundation so if you have imperfection to cover use the corrector first and then carefully apply foundation over the it (that’s what Dermacol advices anyway).

MATT CONTROL 18H WEAR

Price: around 11€ for 30 ml.

Scent: it has light floral scent mixed with makeup scent.

Shades: only 4 shades to choose from, mine is in the colour 2 fair and it is darker than what I usually use, I can wear it only when I’m selftanned, I think I will go for shade 1 next time, even though it has pink undertone.

Texture and finish: it has cream consistency, lighter than the Caviar foundation. It is easy to apply; you can use fingers, brush or sponge. The finish is matt (but not super matt). It smoothes out the skin texture and makes the face look flawless. It is less visible than Caviar foundation. I think it is suitable for normal, slightly dry or slightly oily skin.

Coverage: medium, evens out the skin tone and covers quite a lot of imperfections.

Longevity: it last about 10-12 hours. I use this foundation for long days or events such as weddings.

Matt control 18h foundation by Dermacol

Matt control 18h foundation in colour 2 Fair by Dermacol
Final verdict: both foundations are very nice. Matte control 18h is my Holy Grail foundation and I always have to have it in my collection (I currently used up the bottle and I’m missing it already!). I like it more than the Caviar foundation because it is less visible on the face and stays little bit longer. They are both staying in my collection. After the good experience with these two foundations I’m really curious to try other ones by Dermacol. Maybe next year.

Foundation festival part 1: Yves Rocher foundations

As I’m in the process of cleaning my makeup collection before the end of year, I realized that I have quite a lot of foundations in my collection that I tested some time ago and made some notes without actually publishing them. Now, as I’m trying to free some space in foundation drawer I figured out it would be good idea to give you some quick reviews before I throw them or give them away. They are all drugstore price foundations and I will write about them all week, I hope you’ll enjoy it.

Today I would like to focus on Yves Rocher foundations. You can buy them only in Yves Rocher shops (not in the drugstore) but since their prices are budget friendly (when on 50% off sale) I thought it would be interesting to present them.

Yves Rocher foundations: Flawless finish fluid foundation, Matte fluid foundation, Comfort Cream foudation and deluxe sample of Pure light foundation

COMFORT CREAM FOUNDATION

Price:
11,95€ for 40ml (in Slovak YR 15,90€).

Scent: it has floral scent.

Shades: 8 shades, mine is in shade 100 Very light beige which is my winter colour, it has warm undertone which is perfect for me.

Texture and finish: it has thick cream texture (something like Nivea in white pot) and it is best applied with the fingers or sponge. It smoothes out the skin, doesn’t accentuate dry patches and gives the skin luminous finish.

Coverage: light coverage which is little bit buildable. It evens out the skin tone but doesn’t cover pimples.

Longevity: it lasts only 3-4 hours after that it starts to break down and the skin looks quit dry and patchy (which was surprising, due to its texture I expected to be more moisturising).

Yves Rocher Comfort cream foundation

FLAWLESS FINISH FLUID FOUNDATION

Price: 11,95€ for 30ml (in Slovak YR 14,50€).

Scent: it has a scent of the Anise (or rather a smell of candy with Anise flavour) which I personally hate. It goes away after a while but it is not a nice experience during the application.

Shades: 11 shades (8 in Slovak YR), mine is in shade 100 Very light beige, it is warm tone beige which is perfect for me in winter.

Texture and finish: it has light cream texture that is easy to apply (fingers, brush or sponge, all works well). The finish is little bit luminous; you can get semi-matt by powdering it.

Coverage: light to medium coverage which was surprising to me since the foundation is supposed to give you flawless look.

Longevity: It looks flawless for about 5 hours and then it starts to break here and there. The skin looks afterwards worse than without the foundation, you can see everything even more: pimples, wrinkles and dry patches.

Yves Rocher Flawless finish fluid foundation

Yves Rocher Flawless finish fluid foundation in colour 100 Very light beige

PURE LIGHT FOUNDATION

Price: 12,95€ for 30ml (in Slovak YR 17,40€!!!)

Scent: it has light scent, little bit of Anise but not as strong as in Flawless fluid foundation.

Shades: 11 shades (I didn’t find number of shades in Slovak YR), mine is 200 Light Beige which is darker than what I wear when I’m not selftanned so lighter shade or mix of two shades would be better for me.

Texture and finish: it is liquid foundation that is best applied with fingers. It has luminous finish which can be turned into semi-matt if you powder it. It is suitable for normal to dry skin as it looks well even when you have dry patches, on the other hand if you are oily, you may need to touch up your T-zone after about 4-5 hours. It really looks like there is nothing on the skin.

Coverage: light coverage, little bit buildable. I personally powder it with powder foundation to increase the coverage to medium. It evens out the skin tone and small imperfections but doesn’t cover pimples (which is ok with me, I use concealer).

Longevity: it lasts about 7 hours and then starts to fade away but everywhere simultaneously so it doesn’t leave behind any colour patches.

MATTE FLUID FOUNDATION

Price: 11,95€ for 30ml (in Slovak YR 12,20€).

Scent: is has light floral scent.

Shades: 6 shades, I have two shades: 100 Very light beige and 200 Light Beige.

Texture and finish: it is very liquid foundation, it reminds me of Chanel Vita Lumiere, you have to shake it before using it. Apply it either with the fingers or brush, I don’t recommend sponges since it would soak up too much product. The finish is semi-matt so don’t expect it to be super matt even though the foundation name suggests it.

Coverage: light to medium coverage which is buildable to some extent. It evens out the skin tone and covers some imperfections.

Longevity: it lasts for about 8 hours, and then starts to fade away (nicely).

Yves Rocher Matte fluid foundation

Yves Rocher Matte fluid foundation in colour 200 Light beige and 100 Very light beige

Final verdict: Out of these 4 foundations I really like Pure Light foundation and Matte fluid one (last two make-ups in this post). I will keep these two foundations in my collection. The other two don’t have good longevity and the skin looks worse at the end of their wear than without and that is the main reason I don’t recommend them and they are going out of my collection. Yves Rocher has few more foundations which I haven’t tried yet so maybe in the future I will test and review them as well.
